Where to Take Donations

One of the most frequently asked questions is where to take donations. There are so many worthy organizations to consider, here are a few of my favs.

Find Edmonton

Find provides essential furnishings free of charge to individuals and families who are transitioning out of homelessness, and supplies low-cost, quality furniture and housewares for sale to the public. All items sold or used in the program are donated by the community and 100% of proceeds help those transitioning out of homelessness.

Habitat for Humanity Restore

You can donate a wide variety of building materials, furniture, appliances, household goods and more that can be resold and reused at an affordable price. This diverts reusable materials from the landfill, and allows donors to contribute to a great cause. Donations helps Habitat to help families build strength, stability, and independence through affordable homeownership.

County Clothes-Line

The County Clothes-Line accepts donations of gently-used clothing, toys, games, books and small household items. All merchandise is cleaned, then sold to the public at reasonable prices. Clients referred from local agencies are allowed to shop free in times of an emergency.

100% of the profit from the sale of goods from County Clothes-Line store goes back into the community through the County Clothes-Line Foundation!

Goodwill

Goodwill’s retail thrift shops and donation centres across the province provide funding for programs dedicated to supporting Albertan's with Disabilities or barriers to find meaningful work. In addition, they recycle over 4 million kg of unwanted items and divert over 19 million kg from area landfills.

Hodge Podge Lodge

An initiative of Strathcona County, designed to decrease material going to landfill and empower residents to live an environmentally conscientious, creative and community minded lifestyle, the HodgePodge Lodge collects a mishmash of items that can be reused or repurposed. These items are not easily recycled through traditional methods of collection, and aren't accepted for reuse elsewhere. They have successfully kept over 1 million pounds of items out of landfills with this initiative.
