Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Professional Organizer and a Cleaner?
A cleaning service will come into your home or office and clean it from top to bottom. They generally come once per month, up to once per week.
A professional organizer will help you figure out how/why the clutter got to the level it is. They will then determine your organizing style and develop a system that is specific to you and your needs. This will help save you time, money and reduce your stress level as your space will be more functional. It will also save the cleaner time as a clutter free space is easier to clean.
I also find the organizing process profoundly more successful when your organizing style is respected, because we all like things a little different.
Will you make me “get rid of all my stuff”?
NO! Nothing will leave your home without your permission. It’s our job to help you make the decision of what to keep or rehome and create a space that works for you. At the beginning of the project, we will determine what you want to the space to be used for, set goals and develop strategies so you are confident in your decisions.
What happens to the items I let go of?
You can choose to donate, sell, recycle, or dispose of the items you’d like to let go of. I can provide resources and recommendations for where to take your items, and can even drop them off for you. It is important to us to keep items from the landfill so we recycle and rehome as much as possible.
How long does the decluttering process take?
This is determined by a couple of factors. One of the most important is your ability to make decisions. This is where I come in to serve as your “de-clutter coach”! As you go through more items and different spaces, it will become easier for you. Of course, the size of the space and amount of items to go through will contribute as well. Some projects can take a few sessions while others can be finished in a few hours.
I like to collect items – does this mean I have Hoarding Disorder?
I have had many clients think they are a verging on Hoarding Disorder; most people are not living with this debilitating issue. Hoarding Disorder is a psychological disorder that should only be diagnosed by your medical provider. If you believe either you or a member of your family has hoarding tendencies, speak with your doctor or mental health professional.
What are your prices?
My fee is $75.00 per hour (per organizer if I need to add support to the project) which includes garbage and recycle bags, and basic labels. Hourly services include hands-on organizing, research, shopping, donation drop-off, and other services as requested. The rate does not include the cost of goods purchased or taxes.
